This 1978 Chevrolet Corvette is one of approximately 6,502 Pace Car Edition examples produced to commemorate the model’s use as the pace car for the 1978 running of the Indianapolis 500, and it was reportedly purchased new by the current owner and now has 14 miles. The car is powered by a 350ci L82 V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission and is finished in black and silver over Silver leather. The car is equipped with a Positraction differential, 15″ eight-slot alloy wheels, removable glass roof panels, an AM/FM radio, cruise control, power windows, and air conditioning. This special-edition C3 Corvette is offered on dealer consignment in California with a window sticker and a clean Iowa title.
The 1978 Corvette featured a revised fastback roofline with wraparound rear glass, and all Pace Car examples were finished in two-tone black and silver with a red stripe below the blend line. Exterior equipment includes removable glass T-top roof panels, pop-up headlights, side marker lights, fender air vents, sport mirrors, and quad taillights. The 15″ eight-slot alloy wheels are mounted with 225/60 Goodyear GT Radial tires. Braking is handled by four-wheel power-assisted discs.
The cabin features bucket seats trimmed in Silver leather along with a color-matching dash, center console, door panels, and carpeting. Interior amenities include an AM/FM radio, cruise control, power windows, a tilting steering column, and air conditioning.
The three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 140-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer. An analog clock as well as gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, voltage, and fuel level are located in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 14 miles.
The 350ci L82 V8 is equipped with a four-barrel carburetor and an aluminum intake manifold and was factory-rated at 220 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The selling dealer notes oil seepage.
