Entering a new market segment, Hinckley bike maker Triumph Motorcycles has released the 2025 Triumph TF 450-RC Edition motocross motorcycle. Priced at 10,695 pounds sterling (RM60,017), the TF 450-RC will go on sale in February 2025 through Triumph authorised dealers specialising in motocross and enduro motorcycles.
The TF 450-RC joins the Triumph TF 250-X that was released in November 2023. The ‘RC’ stands for American motocross racer Ricky Carmichael, 15 time American Motorcycle Association (AMA) champion and earning to sobriquet ‘GOAT’ or Greatest of All Time, who was instrumental in developing the TF 450-RC.
Carrying an all-new 449.5 cc, liquid-cooled, SOHC, single-cylinder engine at its core, the TF450-RC boasts of the strongest power to weight ratio in its class. This is underscored by a wet weight of 108.6 kg with seven-litres of fuel in the tank, making the TF 450-RC one of the lightest open class competition motocross machines in the market.
The engine has a narrow profile, allowing riders more control and comfort with regards to body position. Weight is reduced with the use of magnesium engine covers and a Konig forged aluminium piston and DelWest titanium valves provide power, strength and durability.
Coming with a five-speed gearbox, the TF 450-RC is equipped with a quickshifter for clutches upshifts and downshifts from second to fifth gear. Coming as standard equipment is the XTrig Holeshot Device that preloads the front suspension during race starts, lowering the centre of gravity and reducing front wheel lift for quicker acceleration.
KYB supplies the suspension for the TF 450-RC, with 48 mm diameter Air-Oil Separation (AOS) Coil Spring Upside-down Fork with compression and rebound adjustment, giving 310 mm travel. In the rear, a fully-adjustable KYB monoshock with remote reservoir allows for fine-tuning of compression, rebound, and preload settings with High and Low speed adjustment, and providing 305 mm of suspension travel.
Brembo does the braking for the TF 450-RC, with two-piston calliper in front clamping a Galfer 260 mm diameter disc. At the rear, a Brembo single-piston calliper and 220 mm Galfer disc perform stopping duties.
D.I.D DirtStar spoked rims in 21 x 1.6-inch front and 19 x 2.15-inch rear sizes are fitted, shod with 80/100-21 and 110/90-19 tyres front and rear, respectively. Other dimensions for the TF 450-RC are a 960 mm seat height and 836 mm handlebar width, while ground clearance is not mentioned.
