This 1981 Ferrari 512 BB is one of 929 carbureted examples produced between 1976 and 1981, and it was imported to the US in July 1981. The car was registered in Oregon through the late 2000s and was acquired by the selling dealer in 2022 before being offered on BaT in May 2023. It has been refinished in silver over black leather and is powered by a 4.9-liter F102B flat-12 mated to a five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. Features include a Magnaflow stainless-steel exhaust system, pop-up headlights, center-lock 15″ Cromodora wheels, Daytona-style seats, air conditioning, a Pioneer cassette stereo, and a gated shifter. A belt service was completed during prior ownership, while work performed by the selling dealer is said to have consisted of a tune-up and replacement of the coolant expansion tank, battery, tires, and front shocks. This 512 BB shows 20k kilometers (~13k miles) and is now offered with manufacturer’s literature, a tool kit, service records, prior registration cards, a clean Carfax report, and a clean New York title.
The Berlinetta Boxer model was styled by Pininfarina’s Leonardo Fioravanti and was introduced at the 1971 Turin Auto Show. The car features a steel-paneled cabin section paired with a tubular chassis. Aluminum is incorporated for the front and rear clamshells and door panels, while the lower panels are constructed of fiberglass. The 512 BB was not officially offered in the US, though some were imported and federalized in-period via the gray market.
Originally finished in black, this example was repainted silver during previous ownership. Features include pop-up headlights, a front spoiler, black bumpers and lower body trim, NACA side ducts, and quad exhaust outlets. The rear valance was repaired and the side marker light holes were filled in 2017. Corrosion on the rear chassis and in the engine bay was repaired at that time. A replacement grille was installed in 2022.
Center-lock 15″ Cromodora wheels feature three-eared knock-off hubs and are mounted with Michelin XWX tires that show 2021 date codes and measure 215/70 up front and 225/70 at the rear. Stopping power is provided by disc brakes at each corner, and the brake master cylinder was rebuilt in 2017. The front shocks were reportedly replaced in December 2022.
The cabin features Daytona-style seats upholstered in Nero leather, along with a color-coordinated dashboard, center console, and door panels. Amenities include a gated shifter, air conditioning, a Pioneer cassette stereo, and power windows.
The Nardi leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Veglia instrumentation including a 320-km/h speedometer, a 10k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges that extend to the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 20k kilometers (~13k miles), approximately 100 of which were added by the selling dealer.
The 4.9-liter F102B flat-12 features aluminum construction, dual overhead camshafts per bank, dry-sump lubrication, and quad triple-barrel Weber carburetors to produce a factory-rated 340 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. Service completed under prior ownership between 2017 and 2022 included replacing the timing belts, performing a valve adjustment, rebuilding the carburetors, refinishing the intake manifolds and exhaust headers, repairing the radiator, and rebuilding the starter motor and water pump. Work carried out by the selling dealer is said to have consisted of rebuilding and re-curving the distributor along with replacing the spark plugs, ignition wires, and coolant expansion tank.
Power is routed to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. The car is equipped with a Magnaflow stainless steel exhaust system. Service in 2017 included rebuilding the clutch cylinders and installing a double-plate clutch setup. A crack on the underbody tray below the front grille is viewable in the gallery.
