South Australia has a new drag-racing facility, with the ability to host 20,000 fans.

An all-new $35 million-dollar drag-racing strip will soon open at The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia.

The two-lane dragway will be the first new venue for the sport in two decades, with almost 100 events expected to be hosted at the facility each year.

Up to 20,000 fans can witness the burnouts and 400-metre racing from the newly constructed grandstand.

“It is something that you cannot describe until you witness it firsthand,” drag racer Anthony Raschella told 9News.

“Drag racing is a really good sport, it’s where you can get up close and personal, you can walk through the pits, you can talk to the racer,” he said.

“We’ve raced at nearly every track in Australia; to have something like this in your own backyard, this is fantastic.”

The Bend will host preview events ahead of its official opening next month.
