The new entry-level Ram 1500 Big Horn pick-up has been recalled for a fault which could result in the front centre seat detaching.

Ram Trucks Australia has recalled 243 examples of its 2023 Ram 1500, due to a fault which could cause the pick-up’s centre front seat to detach in a crash.

The recall is understood to only affect the 1500 Big Horn variant, the entry-level variant of Ram’s pick-up, which launched in August this year.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: “Due to a manufacturing defect, the locking bracket installed to secure the centre front seat in the down position may not operate as intended.

“This seating position is not fitted with a seatbelt and could be used by an occupant if the locking bracket does not function correctly.

“In the event of a collision, an unrestrained occupant would be exposed to the risk of serious injury or death.”

American Special Vehicles – the importer/converter of Ram pick-ups in Australia – has advised owners of affected vehicles to contact their authorised Ram dealership to arrange to have the centre seat inspected and rectified if necessarily, free of charge.

Owners have been told to not allow occupants to use the front centre seat until the repair is completed.
