This 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500 fastback is one of 2,048 examples produced for the model year and was completed on April 4, 1967. It was first delivered to El Paso Auto Center in Texas and spent time in several states before it was acquired by the seller in 2015. Its 428ci V8 was bored .030″ over under prior ownership and is also fitted with an Edelbrock camshaft, revised pistons, and a Borla cat-back exhaust system. Shifting is through a four-speed manual transmission, and a limited-slip differential with 3.70 gears is fitted. Finished in blue with white stripes, the car has front bucket seats and a folding rear bench trimmed in black vinyl in addition to 15″ Magstar wheels, front disc brakes, power steering, a Hurst shifter, and an AM/FM radio. This GT500 is now offered on dealer consignment with a Deluxe Marti Report, a copy of the initial sales invoice, service records, and New York registration.
The GT500 model was equipped with a ducktail rear spoiler, fender extensions, air scoops on the sail and quarter panels, and a fiberglass trunk lid and ventilated hood with a ram-air scoop. This example left the factory finished in Nightmist Blue and was refinished in the 1990s. Additional exterior equipment includes dual white stripes, hood lock cables, inboard grille-mounted driving lamps, and dual exhaust outlets. Photos of paint meter readings are presented in the gallery below.
Five-spoke 15″ Magstar alloy wheels wear Shelby Cobra center caps and are mounted with P215/65 front and P245/60 rear BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. GT500 models utilized an upgraded suspension system with heavy-duty coil springs up front in addition to heavy-duty leaf springs out back. The car is equipped with revised sway bars, power steering, and power-assisted front disc brakes.
The cabin houses front bucket seats and a folding rear seat trimmed in black vinyl that extends to the door panels. Interior appointments include a Hurst shifter, an AM/FM radio, front seat shoulder harnesses, and a heater. A fire extinguisher is located in the trunk, and the unit pictured between the seats is not included in the sale. The dashboard bears the signature of Carroll Shelby.
The three-spoke woodgrain steering wheel fronts a 140-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. Readouts for amperage and oil pressure are housed below the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 66k miles miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership.
The 428ci Cobra Jet V8 was overhauled in 2002 and bored .030″ over. An Edelbrock camshaft was fitted prior to the current owner’s acquisition, and subsequent work involved installing replacement valve springs, forged pistons, and PerTronix ignition. A previously installed side-exit exhaust was replaced with a Borla cat-back system under current ownership. The dual carburetors were rebuilt and the throttle linkage was adjusted in 2023.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. A limited-slip differential with a 3.70 gear set was installed under prior ownership.
The Deluxe Marti report displays an April 4, 1967 production date and lists factory colors and equipment along with production statistics.
A copy of the invoice from Shelby American shows that the car was initially sold to El Paso Auto Center in Texas and lists a total price of $3,830.23.
The car does not have a title as it is registered in a state that does not issue a title for a vehicle of its age. It is being sold on its transferable New York registration, which lists the Shelby serial number 67400F2A01776 shown above as the VIN.
