The author has clearly made up for lost time with the book, because the narrative is to the point, with nothing in the way of fluff, and impressive honesty about both racing and life. The title is absolutely what’s contained in the confines of its pages, and a few people’s balloons get popped along the way. What’s most impressive in this book is that the text makes clear, over and over again, that success in racing at any level requires maximum concentration and a willingness to innovate. Evernham is one of racing’s great recent pioneers in that regard. Because of his lifestyle, he’s not an easy guy to get to know.
