the Texas Railway Preservation Association is dedicated to ensuring that Southern Pacific 982, a 105-year-old steam locomotive built in 1919 by Baldwin.
Three years later Southern Pacific would give it the 982 designation. It ran until 1956, when it was decommissioned and put away on Hardy Street in Houston.
A year later it moved to Hermann Park and remained on display there until 2005, when the Houston Junior Chamber of Commerce took full ownership of it and let the Astros keep it outside Minute Maid Park.
