This dune buggy was acquired by the seller in September 2023 as a partially completed project, and subsequent work included replacing the floor pans and perimeter supports, overhauling the suspension and fuel system, repainting the exterior in blue, and installing a replacement 1,641cc flat-four, a four-speed manual transaxle, wheels and tires, a windshield assembly, gauges, and lighting. The body is said to have been produced by Allison Fiberglass of Daytona Beach, Florida, and it is mounted to a shortened Volkswagen Beetle chassis. The car is equipped with black cloth upholstery, a roll bar, a chrome bull bar, four-wheel drum brakes, alloy wheels, and an EMPI shifter. This dune buggy is offered with a clean West Virginia title in the seller’s name listing the car as a 1951 Volkswagen.

The seller states that the fiberglass bodywork was block-sanded before a repaint in blue, and it is mounted to a Volkswagen Beetle chassis that has been fitted with tubular perimeter supports and replacement floor pans. Additional details include a roll bar, a chrome bull bar, and a replacement windshield and lighting.

Polished Ultra 14″ and 15″ alloy wheels are mounted with 195/60 front and 255/60 rear tires. Adjustable coilovers have been fitted at all four corners, and braking is handled by four-wheel drums.

Black bucket seats sourced from a Mazda Miata have been installed, and black carpets line the floor and parcel shelf. Additional appointments include lap belts, an EMPI shifter, and a cue-ball shift knob.

The three-spoke steering wheel fronts a black dashboard housing a 90-mph speedometer with an inset fuel gauge as well as a 10k-rpm tachometer and gauges for oil pressure and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 2 miles, and total mileage is unknown.

The replacement 1,641cc flat-four is said to have been rebuilt under prior ownership and is equipped with a single carburetor, blue-finished engine tins, and dual polished exhaust outlets. The fuel system is said to have been overhauled under current ownership.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle.

The chassis tunnel stamping shown above is consistent with a Volkswagen Beetle produced in October 1956 for the 1957 model year and matches the VIN listed on the current West Virginia title, which lists the model year as 1951.
